Kristina Zanic Consultant 创始人及CEO

What is the relationship between design and life in your daily routine (* How do you think about the 'work-life-balance')

As with most business leaders, that's a tough one to get right. I'm one of those people that just thrives on work. My nature is to throw myself into what I'm doing and give it 110%. And even though we're quite a large studio, I'm still very involved with every project to some level. So achieving that perfect balance between my work and personal life is a bit of a challenge. But as the popular saying goes, if you love what you do, you'll never have to work a day in your life!

我一直喜欢旅行。我去过70多个国家，跋山涉水，探访过一些非常偏远的村庄。我喜欢体验不同的文化和生活方式，总能从新地方找到新的想法和灵感。我也是一个真正的艺术爱好者，在旅行中收集了很多很棒的艺术作品。
I've always loved to travel. I've been to over 70 countries, trekked mountains and visited some very remote villages. I love experiencing different cultures and ways of life, and always find fresh ideas and inspiration from new places. I'm also a true art lover, and have a wonderful collection of art I've collected from my travels.

According to your experience on the design industry, what is the most fundamental point in the interior design process

A big success factor in our work is building a strong partnership with the client. That helps us gain a good understanding of what they're really looking to get out of the design and also earning their trust in our ability to achieve that for them.

Some of my favorite projects include the work we did for Ritz Carlton Wadi Resort in Ras Al Khaimah in the UAE. The hotel is a luxury camp nestled in the midst of sand dunes and our design tells the story of the Bedouin way of life and relationship with the desert.

Running any business requires a whole set of skills relating to planning, finances, managing and motivating employees, and building relationships with clients. With a design business in particular, you have to add that all-important skill of creativity and always coming up with something new. A key aspect of running the business is also ensuring that every team member is delivering work at a very high standard and that is consistent with our design ethos.

We want to design spaces that ultimately feel good to their users. I'm a strong believer in feng shui principles and in achieving a sense of harmony and flow within a space. Our goal isn't to design something that only looks great in an interior design magazine or to nail the latest interior trend - it's about creating a positive experience for someone when they step into a space and for them to be able to use it intuitively, regardless of whether it's a home, hotel-room, restaurant or spa. As a designer, you have to pause often during the design process and imagine how you would feel if you stepped into the space you're envisioning.

Over the course of 2020 to 2022, we have seen examples of human life shifting gears, enormous differences and challenges come without notice, can you tell us what kind of challenges/problems you ever met and how do you coped with it

At the height of the pandemic, it was a bit of struggle to continue with work the usual way. So much of our work is about internal collaboration among the team, as well as meeting with clients and visiting project sites. Like most businesses, we had to respond quickly and adapt the way we communicate and inspect sites, but it didn't fundamentally affect our business. In fact, we managed to win major projects throughout the pandemic and our business even experienced a boom.

How do you define the word 'leading' in the design context

Any suggestions for the younger generation in the design industry不要走成功的捷径。没有努力和决心就没有好运气，你真的需要自己创造运气。当然，要原创，不要害怕尝试新东西。
Don't take any shortcuts to success. Nothing good comes without a lot of hard work and determination and you really have to create your own luck. And of course, be original and don't be afraid to try something new.
